Places On A Map (p.s It’s Coming Home)

Look. The North-South divide is real okay. Going to university in the North has taught me about the hatred for the South, okay fine. I’ve accepted it. But let me clear a few things up okay. The Midlands is a thing. I’m not even remotely sorry for pointing this out. I am a Midlander, and I am proud. We do not conform to your North/South divide. Why you may ask? Well let me tell you, it’s because we sit rather comfortably in the middle. We have no Northen traits, we have no Southern traits we have our own little way of life. We are content and people need to start accepting that we are in fact real people. This is a thing you can’t hide from it, and I would really appreciate it if people would stop telling me the Midlands doesn’t exist because I know it does… I live there. Without us, no-one would have things like pork pies and Cadbury’s and then how would the world go round? The Midlands was home to none other than Shakespeare himself and Prince William (the future King Of England) is an avid Aston Villa fan, why I will never know- Birmingham City is truly where my heart is at, okay yes I’m a Bluenose, but heck if it’s good enough for him it should be good enough for you. We sit here contently nestled between the both of you Northerners and Southerners, softening the harsh parts about both of your cultures so they’re acceptable to all. We’re neutral. We’re Switzerland in any form of war – we keep out. I’m not saying everything about the Midlands brilliant. All we really want is a little bit of acceptance that we are a place. After all, Birmingham is our second largest city so it deserves some credit. Please start to accept my little traits too okay I call it a gambol over a forward roll, I’ll say island instead of roundabout but you put gravy on chips and fry mars bars okay even stevens.‘Be proud of your hometown, it’s a big part of what makes you the person that you are.’With all that being said if there’s one thing you can count on us Brit’s to do, it’s to all get behind the football. It’s the World Cup 2018 and I think we’ve all just accepted that this year the footballs coming home. I work in a music shop and this was the result of today. I left work right after the match finished. The whole street was screaming and chanting- I’ve never seen anything like it. I love the country coming together to celebrate something good. It’s long over due that we are celebrating anything. The nations spirits are high, we’re wearing our three lions with pride and it’s incredible. Though we understand there’s a good chance we won’t bring it home, the football is coming home. So whilst I present to you my case in backing the Midlands, I’ll also present a case to get behind England. This is our year.
